Don't get stuck in a hair rut!!!
Having been natural only 9 months and starting from close to a bald head, I know how frustrating your hair can become and how some days it doesn't even seem worth it, but HOLD ON sista!! I have tried to come up with some solutions to help you out of your HAIR RUT!
1. TRACK YOUR PROGRESS
Any time that you feel that this journey is in vain, look back at where you started and this should give you an ego boost.
2. SEARCH FOR STYLE IDEAS
When I get bored with what I can come up with myself, I always turn to my laptop or phone for inspiration. My fave is youtube. Search natural hair or TWA (teeny weeny afro) and there are millions of videos. You can even be specific and search "styling your TWA" or "twistout on short hair" and get great results. Also, set up a youtube login and subscribe to different vloggers channels. When you do this, you will get updates when they add new videos and that is always a highlight of my day.
Other places you can turn to are FOTKI, Facebook, tumblr and other natural hair communities that require you to register and become a member. My favorites are naturalsunshine.com and nappturality.com
3. MODIFY YOUR REGIMEN
If you feel that your hair is becoming dry, brittle or lackluster then it is definitely time to revamp your regimen. Try new products or try switching some out. I have so many products in my closet, that I can always use something new! Or use a product that you have been wanting to try and maybe this could be the product you were looking for!
I know sometimes it gets hard on this natural journey, but surround yourself with people who support your decision and those who have been where you are in your journey....a little encouragement never hurt anybody!!

Winterizing your hair
Another thing for winter is protective styling! This is a wonderful way to protect your ends (which are the most fragile part of your hair) protected from cold and windy weather.
Protective styling can be a range of hairstyles: twists, braids, sew-ins, wigs, or any style with extensions (kinky twists, micros, Nubian twists). These styles protect your ends which can prevent breakage and help to retain length.
Make sure that with any of these styles you keep your scalp clean. There are a number of things you can do. I prefer to mix shampoo or conditioner with water in an applicator bottle and squeeze on the scalp. You just gently rub it in and rinse out. HTH

Winterizing your hair
So, even though I live in Texas, it is wintertime. I thought that I would tell what I do to protect my hair from cold weather and harsh winds.
1st things first....MOISTURIZE, MOISTURIZE, MOISTURIZE!! I cannot express how important it is to keep your hair moisturized when the air is so dry outside. Right now I wash my hair once a week with SheaMoisure Moisture Retention shampoo and deep condition with their deep treatment mask. Both work wonders for me!

Product Review: The Great Detangler by: Taliah Waajid's Black Earth Products
Ok, so I purchased this product from a natural hair show here in Arlington a couple months ago. I visited the Taliah Waajid booth because I swear by their Protective Mist Bodifier. They had a special 3 products for $10, so I purchased one of these to try it out.
Let me break it down
The Great Detangler Eliminates tangles on contact. Softens
hair, defines curl pattern. Stops breakage while combing
curly, kinky, coily and wavy hair. Hair Detangler is rich
with moisturizers, protein and conditioners. Coats and
protects hair while softening. For best results, use the
complete line of Black Earth Products.

Directions:
Use on wet or dry hair. Separate a section of
hair. Apply a liberal amount of Hair Detangler. Use
fingers to work the product through the hair to loosen the
tangles. Use a medium to large tooth comb. Start at the
ends of the hair. Comb through up to the scalp and
through tangles. Style as desired.

Price: Around $8
So, I hadn't used this product yet, but this morning my hair was super dry and matted from a week old twistout. I honestly did not feel like washing my hair, so I sprayed it with water, sectioned my hair into 4 sections and applied the product one section at a time and detangled with my Denman brush.
Let me say that this was the easiest detangling session I have ever had. The product offered a lot of slip, but not so much that the product showed in my hair. The brush literally slid through my hair and untangled so easily (much better than the Suave Conditioner I usually use).
Even right now as I run my fingers through my hair, it is still untangled and VERY moisturized.
Recommendation:
Honestly, I would recommend this to anyone who has a hard time detangling their own or a child's hair. I would definitely spray with water or use this right after a wash. Also make sure to detangle from end-to-root, NOT root-to-end. That is the best way to create a tender scalp.
Hope this helps!!!

Lose 30 by 30!!!
So, yesterday I started bootcamp (heavy duty, I might add) and I began counting weight watchers points! My ultimate goal is to lose 30 pounds before my 30th birthday, which is May 4th. I am confident that it can be done, but it will require hard work and discipline on my part, but I welcome the challenge.
Starting weight: 206
